I liked the way Ali read the riot act to the politicians, what with all the insults flying from these charlatans’ mouths.
But, what really got me interested was the part that said: “…nobody is allowed to make provocative or insulting utterances against his opponents…”
My one question to Ali is, Will he send his boys to arrest the President when he calls his opponents ‘pumbavu, mavi ya kuku, wajinga…..’? Will he guarantee that Mama Lucy will not insult Kalonzo as she is wont to do? That Martha Karua will face the music when she calls the opposition cry-babies? That Mungatana will be summoned for burning his opponent’s effigies? That we will not hear about horse and donkey parties anymore?
With ECK Chairman Kivuitu supporting the Police Commish, the die is cast and them politicians are on their own. Its instructive to note that even some members of the government have protested against Ali’s ‘highhandedness’! Its indicative of the fact that the Riot Act will cut both ways.

THE CIRCUS THAT IS KACC!
Ringera has once again come out fighting that he isn’t the man to blame in the stalled fight against corruption despite pocketing Ksh 2.5M per Month! And depending on how you look at it, places the blame at the desk of the ever smiling Attorney General Wako and the tough as nails Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Karua.
He states categorically that his lack-of-prosecution-powers are his greatest handicap! Saying rightly so, that he only investigates and forwards the files to Attorney General for prosecution.
Beyond that, even dramatic summons like those served to Ndolo he of mkiwaona hao fame, amount to nothing if Wako is ever smiling.
And the blame game continues.

BRAIN USERS OR CARRIERS?
Someone told me that we have two kinds of people in the world. Those who use their brains and, those who carry their brains.
For instance, the Municipal Council of Kapenguria killed 1000 dogs in its jurisdiction. What they did with the carcasses was most bizarre, hence the headline question! They dumped the carcasses into the only river that supplies the town with water, river Chemoiet.
The dogs were poisoned after complaints of dog bites reached alarming levels and risks of rabies. In fact the target was 2000 stray dogs.
If our grandparents, parents knew better about carcass disposal, pray I ask, are the workers of Municipal Council of Kapenguria using their brains or are they just brain receptacles?

THE MUNGIKI RETALIATION
Mungiki retaliates by killing an official of the Kiambu - Githunguri Matatus. It was grisly since they used an axe then shot him thrice. Note that this has taken place in Githunguri not in Banana where there were running battles between police and public on one side and Mungiki on the other.
How far this will go waits to be seen considering that the Government seems to be lost at sea on what to do. Negotiate with Mungiki (Karume) or not (Gvt spokesman). Transfer police (central PC) or Not (Maj Gen Ali)!!!
Has Mungiki gone into hibernation in Banana then resurfaced in Githunguri? And if that is the case, what are they trying to prove and to whom? And is this a case of community policing gone horribly wrong?
While still in Banana, Mungiki has done the unthinkable, they shot and killed a policeman. They petrol-bombed two matatus also. That the police literally flooded the area shows that they have realised that they need to coalesce together and show the goons who has the monopoly of violence.

SOMEBODY BARK TO AWORI ‘KEEP OFF!’
To quote a cliché, this government has got its priorities wrong from the word go and it’s operating as though it’s on a permanent self-destruct mode thanks to the pilot!
The latest venture by Moody Awori, the Funyula MP and Anglo-Leasing actor who denied any wrongdoing when his hand was found in the cookie jar, and opted to delegate the resignation and attendant costs to his juniors, to try and intimidate a Magistrate in his backyard of Busia, to acquit a cable of thugs facing death penalty wasn’t only laughable but also smacks of arrogance that this administration is so famous for as far as their interests are under threat. Its also an indication of how an otherwise clever person can act stupid.
Its also a peek into the thoughts of the executive as far as the other arms of the government are concerned.
That the Magistrate, Mr. Walter Nyarima came out firing from all his cylinders telling Awori to keep off the case and seek information about it from the AG, shows how he values freedom to conduct his duties without executive interferences.
While we may applaud the courageous Magistrate, let us not forget that there may be other judicial officers through out the country who may have been compromised by the executive.
After seeking protection from The Chief Justice, the Magistrate was transferred to Kericho! How appropriate! This further shows that there are still elements in the Judiciary who play to the whims of the executive and re sympathetic to warped cause of the executive to silence all and sundry into submission!
What we may never know is whether Awori was trying to get back to Dr. Otwoma who happens to be a relative to the murdered women since he is eyeing the Funyula seat in the next elections.
In Awori’s case, he got served, and the public is the wiser.

WHY WE HAVE TO LOOK AT ABORTION AFRESH
Statistic released by the UoN lecturer Prof. Joseph Karanja who also doubles as Delivery Specialist at Kenyatta National Hospital, show a skyrocketing rise in abortion cases in the country.
According to him, approximately 300,000 abortions are carried out annually in Kenya by women in the age bracket of 20-34 yrs in backstreet clinics.
As a result of this, the Health Ministry is spending upwards of Ksh18M per year in resultant complications, while half the hospital beds occupied by women carry the sufferers of the complications.
Prof. Karanja blames a lack of policy in law to govern how, when, who and where should an abortion be carried out. This he says will greatly reduce the after effects of abortions gone awry like, trauma, bareness and death of the abortee. The health bill will consequently go down.
However, looking at this issue retrospectively, if what greeted the Health Minister Ngilu’s suggestion to legalise abortion is anything to go by, then there is only one way for this scourge to go and that is – UP!
Recall the 8 or so fetuses that were found one morning long Mombasa Road some years back? The outcry that followed, you would be forgiven to think that the world had indeed come to an end! What about the mock burials? Then what happened? We went back to our comfort zones, dug our heads into the sand like the proverbial ostrich while abortions continued.
At a seminar that he was covering this issue, Prof.Karanja said that as doctors, they see very many people carrying out these abortions. The fact is that the high and mighty will do this without batting n eyelid. Why not legalise it to avoid the approximately 800 deaths by women who attempt this act. It’s clearly a case of what is good for the goose isn’t good for the gander.
One question though, show me someone who doesn’t know of anybody who has aborted and I will show you the sea route to mars!

MEET OSAMA BIN LADEN’S FILM MAKING BROTHER
I was reading a back issue of the Premier Magazine, 2004 Issue to be specific. I came across an article about Osama’s sibling Yeslam Binladin. (Note the spelling of the name.)
It is a story about two people of the same family who’s paths have diverted perpendicularly.
He began his interest in movies as a teenager in Lebanon back in the 60’s, but that’s the story of one who has become a film financier. He sits on the board of Almaz Film Productions in Switzerland, created before the now infamous 9/11. His is a name that doesn’t appear on the credits of the films they produce. Almaz co-produced The Five Obstructions with Lars von Trier.

GRAB A BALANCE IN YOUR LIFE
This blogger had an academic discussion with a friend. Not what you would carry out on a normal day I would say. Not that what he told me was anything ground shattering, only that it was what I knew all along, but hadn’t got the words to put it down.
Basically what is BALANCE? According to the Chinese, it’s a good condition and in this case, wholesome good condition. It covers three areas:
Psychology: This is the mental side of well being that controls all aspects of our lives.
Physiology: Encompasses the bodily functions and their status.
Social: With this, we are able to interact with other people if the above two are in optimum state.
Psychology: Without wanting to get into murky waters of this topic, the simple rule here is that ‘we are what we think we are’. PERIOD! Think you are poor……… Hell yes you are! Think you are rich, you guessed it right………….. Damn well you are! In other words, we are an expression of what we think. As we think, so are we!
Physiological: Our bodies will only carry us as far as we take care of them. We need to eat well and exercise as well. It’s the only way to make our body function optimally. The key word here is OPTIMUM. Not ‘well’.
Socially: We can only interact with our fellow species if our above two status are in, I repeat, OPTIMUM state. Only then are we able to think where our next meal will come from, what to eat, cloth etc. Remember that we can’t socialize when we are in a state of sickness.
What this tell us is that we are all looking for a status called ‘The Vital Balance’’. It’s that state in which we operate in clarity, knowing what we want and how to go about getting what we want.
I rest my case.

KARIBU KENYA VIRGIN ATLANTIC
On the 2nd of June, Virgin Atlantic touched down at JKIA at 0605Hrs from London Heathrow. Aboard it were the Kenyan team accompanied by its CEO, Sir Richard. It brings real competition to one of the most competitive and lucrative rotes out of JKIA. Among Its competitors here will be BA and our very own KQ! From me, its KARIBU VIRGIN!
